All of a sudden all the hard concrete I stop!! And I love it!

I suppose when I would drug or drink I was doing similar things but it wasn't physical it was emotional. I would lie and steal and blame and shun and quiver and hide and tear my soul and my self esteem to shreds.

I choose now to skate to deal with daily stresses and recreation. I can't tell you how much money I have saved. Skateboarding is recession proof and good for the heart and cardiovascular system. There is no second hand smoke and you don't have to pretend your hardcore behind your "bar facade."

You keep your dignity and you respect yourself in the morning. I condone skateboarding because I can do it at most anytime versus surfing or cycling. But the fact is I can do other things my bad behavior kept me from. I can improve athletically. I can be proud of my accomplishments and laugh at my bumps and bruises the following day. At least now I know how I got them.

Skateboarding vs. drinking

On my new path of sobriety I have found without all those other places I used to frequent I now have a a plethora of time and energy for other things.

I had to get out of my "poor me " phase and look around at all these other resources available. I looked for some outlet that would exhaust me and keep me social like the places I had gone to for the same result. So as I looked around at was available like my: surfboards, guitar, skateboards computer, etc. and it hit me!
"SKATEBOARD!, " I explained. Of course it's cheap and there are so many outlets around that offer secure and "influence" free environments.
So I am excited to go out today and practice some axle stalls in the bowl at Cocoa Beach Skatepark tonight. I shall have my new elbow pads and be with my colleagues Mike and Dumpster. It will be fun and I hope to get plenty tired and and fatigued. And unlike drinking it will be cheap. Unlike drinking it will not lead to involvement with the law. Unlike drinking I won't be getting up to piss all night. Unlike drinking when I feel sore tomorrow I will remember exactly how it happened. Unlike drinking I won't stay up til "who knows when" chasing girls, parties, drugs all morning. Unlike drinking I can be in better shape to serve my surfing.

I am thankful for being able to skateboard. I am blessed with health and wealth beyond measure. I can wish that I had kept involved more when I was younger so I don't have to relearn all my old tricks.

Here's to being over thirty and given a new life. Cheers. Now drink from the giving cup of the Lord.

Yours in the light of the Lord,

Jesse
